Battle of the Somme, Dudmaston 2 of 2

Posted by
Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 8 August 2014 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

This is a life size art installation we came upon at Dumaston Hall in Shropshire, it was created by Students from Birmingham University and inspired by leading war poets Wilfred Owen, Woodbine Willy and Charles Hamilton Sorley, depicting the terrible life the troops had in the trenches. Amazingly the installation is created out of brown paper and corrugated cardboard. When Dudmaston closes for the season in October the installation is to be destroyed going along with the wishes of its creators to commemorate to lives lost at that awful battle.

Making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

So remarkably powerful in this medium . . the color-affinity with mud was, of course, a perfect art choice.

Another amazing image of this art that brings home the reality of war. It's too bad the world forgets and wars keep being fought.

The artist really had an idea of the sadness and pathos of the war, and it comes through in
this installation. Most of us have no idea of the tragedy of war but this photograph shows
how much we owe our veterans !~

This image has so much emotion to it. It is such a touching tribute and means so much more that it will be destroyed as a commemoration to all those who lost their lives. It just looks so realistic.
