Gas Street Basin (Birmingham return 4 of 9)

Posted by
Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 31 July 2014 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Taken while on a canal boat in Gas Street Basin, the building in front is known as The Cube which is a 24 story building housing, shops, office, restraunt and residential spaces. I played with the processing a little on this one in Silver Efex pro and gave it a high key look then a few final tweaks in Elements.

This series consists of observations from my recent visit to my home City of Birmingham, a place I had not returned to really spend time looking around for over 40 years. The next few days will be my photographic experience of the city through older eyes, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did looking round and taking images.

Making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

Really a cool combination here, Doug! I love it - you have these features perfectly arranged (you must be very strong to move the boats around like this :-) Seriously, this is composed magnificent my friend - I love it :-) The processing is awesome ---the cube is a really interesting looking building isn't it? Everything about this shott is fantastic. Thank you for this one, Doug - :-) dj

You have taken slithering to new levels - I know we have been enjoying seriously hot weather here in the UK, but cooling off in the canal can't be conducive to health LOL. Love how you have combined all the elements here with that high key exposure/processing

31 Jul 2014 1:44pm

@Jules: Thanks Jules. Come now I challenge you to try a bit of canal slithering all you need is a wet-suit and off you go !

Don from United States

A fine shot of this interesting complex of buildings and boats.

The photo is great and the narrative makes it perfect. I like your angle with the boat on the right looking like it is coming right toward us.
