For all those brave, we will remember them

Posted by
Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 6 June 2014 in Transportation and Portfolio.

70 years ago, 6th of June 1944 "D-Day", brought about the turning point in that terrible conflict that turned the world upside-down. I wanted to do something to commemorate the bravery and terrible losses on both sides. This Dakota flew over the other day, I just managed to capture it and I felt it would fit with what I wanted to say.

I feel it's important for our generation and those growing up behind us to remember that it's the young men and women who's lives are wasted by politicians, their high minded ideals and the terrible wars they create, often without thought to the loss of life it will cause on both sides. As John Lennon said "Give Peace a Chance" Please

Please excuse me if I don't get to comment people's images some days but I've had to return to a work life rather than become a pensioner as I had planned due cost of living and the tax man wanting a lump of my pension. I am making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

For the day of the whole history of the world was great. Each operation involved deserves our respect. Every soldier who obeyed the laws of his country and fought on their behalf was a hero.

I agree with you Doug!!
this commemoration is important for all of us!!
I've never seen so many documents on the massacre of the war and especially on Le Havre and there was nothing!
I was full of thrills!
warplanes attérissent next door to us, because the airport of Deauville is small!
9 am to 12 pm we waited warplanes!! when the planes arrived, there was silence around us, and people wanted to hear the engine of the old planes!!
we saw two monsters of war, and wanted to cry! we thought our parents who lived through the war!!
we want peace.
peace in love

Many thanks for this super Image and thought provoking words Doug.
As an Ex-Service man who saw active Service in Northern Ireland remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice all those years ago is very close to my heart.
I´ve just watched some of the ceremonies taking place in Normandy today on TV with tears in my eyes at times. The respect and thanks that we owe all those old soilders is immense.
We must remeber all those who have fallen.

@Anthony Morgan Lambert: Thanks Ant, the services and commemorations meant a lot to those soldiers sailors and airmen and likewise it brought a tear to my eye thinking of my Dad who served as aircrew in the RAF during the war. They were all incredibly brave and should never be forgotten

Wonderful framing and a very poignant write up Doug...
How right you are ...people of different countries don't wish war or to fight...it's the governments and politicians who wage wars which end in terrible loss of lives..
Hope peace prevails everywhere..
