Leaving Geiranger fjord

Posted by
Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 14 August 2013 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

But don't worry there's still plenty of Norway to show you if you aren't to fed up !

Canon EOS 500D 1/500 second F/11.0 ISO 200 49 mm

Making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

Emma G from Auckland, New Zealand

this looks very dramatic in black and white...I hope you are putting all of these lovely images into a book/album!

14 Aug 2013 8:01am

@Emma G: That's the plan when I've eventually finished processing them all

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

Don't know if it's just me Doug, but this has a very ambiguous look to it. My first thoughts were that this was a mountain scene with a green plain in the foreground, you had deliberately used the dusty path as a lead in line to guide us through.
Kind of odd how sometimes black and white tones can suggest something completely different to what you expect.

14 Aug 2013 8:50am

@Curly: I know what you mean Curly, I nearly didn't put this on because of the ambiguity, I plan to put the colour version on to compare

Oiva from Turku, Finland

Fantastic scenery Doug...:-)

14 Aug 2013 3:02pm

Joyce from Montana, United States

You know what? B&W is really an alteration of reality. And, those mountains are just formidable. Pushes my "scare me" button. That's a big eye on the slope to the left, gulp. Great frame with tension in it to keep the eye of the viewer. :-D

14 Aug 2013 3:12pm

@Joyce: Oh believe me it's breathtaking but I know what you mean about the B&W, it gives it an intimidating look and I had not noticed the eye before !

BiLL from Belfast, United Kingdom

I like the way the ship's wake draws your eye across the image.

Excellent Black and White, the mountains of the fjord are beautiful . I went to Norway in the 70s with a small motorcycle (very small) 49 CC. I had time to see the scenery, it's really very nice.
Have a good evening.

14 Aug 2013 8:18pm

@gerard1948: I can't imagine touring on a bike that small. Thank you Gerard

This is a tremendously dramatic composition, Doug. I really like the processing you used here - the B&W almost seems to have a charcoal appearacne - really captivating - what an awesome scene :-) Great job sir!!
