Girl in a meadow (colour)

Posted by
Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 1 August 2013 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

This pretty girl was modelling for another photographer in the grounds of a museum in Oslo and I just had to steal a shot or two.
A little more cropping and in colour, which do you prefer ?

Canon EOS 500D 1/200 second F/13.0 ISO 400 33 mm

Making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

Very nice! The color one is very appealing!

Bettina from Los Angeles, United States

The color is wonderful, but I almost think it has even more impact in bw.

1 Aug 2013 5:40am

Mooie from Vancouver, Canada

I like the colour one... the green is such an appealing color and the girl kind of "pops" out of it.

jpla from St Barthélémy d, France

En couleur aussi elle rend bien mais j'ai une préférence pour le N&B d'hier ! Bonne journée

1 Aug 2013 6:02am

Christine from Ellemford, United Kingdom

I prefer the closer crop, and like them both but my choice would be the B&W

1 Aug 2013 6:06am

Nazzareno from Rome, Italy

Absolutely wonderful.... marvelous colors and clarity.

1 Aug 2013 6:27am

saran from shiraz, Iran

very very beautiful . and very nice .

Ainsley from Derbyshire, United Kingdom

Maybe even better in colour than black and white. Certainly the grass on the roof is more evident. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough yesterday.

1 Aug 2013 7:28am

Nigel from Avening, United Kingdom

So romantic................

1 Aug 2013 7:35am

@Nigel: Oh you big softy :-))

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

Hmm..........I think I like colour better, has more of that Julie Andrews feel :-)

1 Aug 2013 7:56am

@Curly: And there was me thinking the B&W had the bloke in the distance looking sinister but, now the colour has that ultimate video nasty (Sound of Music) feel :-))

Sarito from Basingstoke, United Kingdom

I like the colour version.. beautiful model

Wonderful shot. I prefer the color one; green colors of grasses and leaves are so beautiful.

Th B/W for me

1 Aug 2013 9:17am

Martine Libouton from bousval, Belgium

Très belle aussi en couleur mais je préfère le B&W qui lui donne cet air mystérieux!

I like the color version and composition.

1 Aug 2013 10:28am

Jason Politte from Conway, AR, United States

Both are excellent, and I truthfully can't decide which I like better. The black and white has more mood, but the color version gives a feeling of actually being there. I like how the guy in the background is more visible in this version.

Akbar&Armaghan from Gorgan, Iran

Carol from Leamington, Canada

I feel that you get more appreciation of the photo in color..... re the roof of the houses, the beautiful tall green grass, the smoke from the chimney... even the girl looks lovelier with her fabulous smile. This is my fav Doug... it has more personality than the b/w.... I like! :)

Jules from Drayton, United Kingdom

I think the colour steals it for me - though I would have cloned that lone figure in the background out - something quite disturbing about his presence lol.

1 Aug 2013 12:21pm

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

I think I definitely prefer the colour version Doug! It has a wonderful richness! ;-)

1 Aug 2013 1:18pm

I see so much more in the colour one.

Don from Spokane, United States

I like the color version for the way the greens show up so well. The cabin roof is a good example. A very successful shot.

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

I like it even more in color. Really nice.

1 Aug 2013 3:05pm

I prefer the B&W, this color one does feel like SOund of Music.

1 Aug 2013 4:30pm

Calusarus from Drome des collines, France

A charming composition. I like it a lot

1 Aug 2013 4:46pm

Judy aka L@dybug from Brooksville, FL, United States

Definitely better IMO in color ... all the details show up as have been mentioned in earlier comments, but the chimney smoke especially! *****

1 Aug 2013 5:31pm

Regina G. Santaella from Mexico

Just as beautiful as the other one, althoughnthe b&w is more dramatic. Love the smoke coming out of the little house.

1 Aug 2013 6:25pm

BiLL from Belfast, United Kingdom

I think I prefer the colour version :)

1 Aug 2013 6:35pm

Basile Pesso from Barcelona, Spain

I prefer the previous one that has more breathing and ominous feeling, but here it's another kind of movie feeling, like in a Shyamalan maybe.
The contrast between the joy and the threat represented by the man afar is more visible. Very good too anyway.

1 Aug 2013 6:38pm

Ted from South Wales, United Kingdom

colour, gives it more depth perhaps...but that doesn't mean the mono is shabby. Love the fact you piggybacked the shoot and got such a keeper gratis!!

1 Aug 2013 6:40pm

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

She's lovely in color, too. I like both versions.

1 Aug 2013 8:12pm

kiwisa from North Shore, New Zealand

I really love the colour version.

1 Aug 2013 8:19pm

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

I was really taken with the b&w but after today, I think I like the color version best! Could be Sound of Music or Heidi!

1 Aug 2013 8:45pm

Philnz from Ngatea, New Zealand

Yes it's colour for me.

2 Aug 2013 4:40am

L'angevine from Angers, France

franz from Baden, Austria

enchanting image, could be straight from a film set ...

2 Aug 2013 7:00pm

k@ from Paris, France

The color version is as interesting as the mono, another world it brings up with those brightful & deep hues, joyful and more fairy-tale-like too.
