A break to my series on Fountains Abbey, and a little late posting today as I suspected my mate Nige might put a shot over my bows ! So in retaliation to his stunning post today here's mine from our brilliant day out to Yeovilton Air Day yesterday.

It might be a little slower and less colourful than a Red Arrow but the Fairy Swordfish (Stringbag to us ex RN types) is one of the Royal Navy's Historic Flight most precious aircraft.

Making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

These old planes have so much charm ! So I guess you were in one of them ?

24 Jun 2012 12:46pm

@Florence: I agree and although I was in the Navy in the 70's I was too young to have flown in one of these

This is a definitely precious aircraft, Doug! Love this one. I pretty much missed everybody yesterday, so I guess i'd better get back at some point and see what all the debate here is between you and good old Nigel. I'll be back - at some point :-) Cheers Doug!

Nice shot! I love the old aircrafts! - Is that some sort of warhead hanging underneath the plane? :)

24 Jun 2012 2:20pm

@B.Sully: The stringbag was flown off aircraft carriers and was used during WW 2 to attack enemy ships so what you see below is a torpedo

Doug, this is great, you, Nigel, and I all have airplane shots today. He caught a great action shot, and you did as well. What a cool old plane this is that you captured, and with armament also. Have a great day :~]
