Truro Cathedral 2 of 4

Posted by
Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 16 March 2012 in Architecture and Portfolio.

The West Front and main entrance of the Cathedral.

Truro is the county town of Cornwall and the only city in the county. The construction of the Cathedral began in 1880 on the site of the former parish church of St Mary the Virgin, and the sixteenth-century south aisle of the original parish church was incorporated into the building. Although consecrated in 1887 the Cathedral was not completely finished till the two western towers were finished in 1910.

Making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

Never been to Truro, must get it on my bucket list.
That's quite a fascia for a fairly "modern" cathedral.

Doug - I did not get an opportunity to comment yesterday but that was just a marvelous angle that you employed yesterday in the cathedral in order to highlight the ceiling and overall interior design! Just superb and beautiflly exposed as well! Great stuff there :-) !! And this exterior shot is equally fantastic as you use the early morning (?) or early evenning light so there are no sharp divisions in contrast. What a lovely, beautiful church! Wonderful pieces, Doug ;-)

What a powerful and impressive image. Like that it is not in the sunlight, that it's biege & blue colors comp is mute and soft, and approachable -- a quiet mood.
