The starlings can be seen all around collecting together they fill the trees telephone wires almost anywhere as they wait, the noise is amazing.
The collective noun for a group of starlings is a murmeration, on the Somerset levels in Sedgemoor between late September and March the murmeration grows as dusk approaches and the starlings gather to roost in the reed-beds on the moors overnight. It's estimated that sometimes the Sedgemoor murmeration can be up to five million starlings, although the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds estimates this years murmeration on Sedgemoor to be around one and a half million.
Sorry for the lack of comments on peoples blogs over the weekend, and thank you all those who were kind enough to comment on mine, we were away with friends, so normal services should resume !!

Please excuse me if I don't get to comment people's images some days but I've had to return to a work life rather than become a pensioner as I had planned due cost of living and the tax man wanting a lump of my pension. I am making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.
@Nigel: You have to feel he missed an opportunity, although seeing some of our local gulls after being kindly trained by the holiday makers, I would be much more fearful of them, especially if you're walking along with food in your hand !
@Curly: The best displays unfortunately seem to come when they are being attacked and the murmeration moves to make amazing shapes.
@Joyce: Thanks Joyce. It's a colour image shot against the cloudy light
