River Parrett

Posted by
Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 26 January 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

View across the tidal part of the river Parrett as it meanders its way through Somerset on its way to the source of the river in Dorset. The hill to the left is Brent Knoll, and the Mendip hills are in the distance.

Making an effort to return to AM3 after a bit of an absence, it's really nice to see photo's from all contributors and I will try to comment when I can. If I offer criticism I do so only to help and I do not wish to cause offence. My photography tends to be from my travels, as well as my passion which is wildlife and landscape. I hope you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for your comments I'm really grateful for them and welcome constructive feedback.

Perfect framing and composition, Doug. The light is caught just beautifully..and I am really intrigued with the various levels (or layers) in the water, tide pools, and river, Amazing. The water coming in from the upper left there - is that water draining off a field into the river or is that another branch of the river? VERY fascinating, Doug...this is a great shot!!

26 Jan 2012 2:00pm

@Denny Jump Photo: Thanks Denny, its just a bend in the river but I could not get it all in. The morning light does most of the work for me as it reflects of the river and mud

Beautiful scene made spectacular by the " rolling hills of water " that seem to comprise this
gorgeous landscape, with almost what looks like a cesspool drawing my eye to the right. I
just love how many levels there seems to be in this magnificent view, superb photograph !~

This is really a pretty shot Doug. It would be interesting to convert it to a B&W to see how it would look? It looks like it would have a real nice tonal range.

What a simple and exquisite image. All the graceful curves of the river and shore with the dry golden grass up front that helps make the water almost mauve or a purple tint. Love it.
