Rickford (untouched)

Posted by Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 29 August 2012 in Architecture and Portfolio.

As promised this is the original shot of Rickford without the cropping and desaturation, if you missed it the original monochome post is here http://dougp.aminus3.com/image/2012-08-23.html
Be honest I value people's opinions and I will not be hurt.
If enough are interested I'll post a wider view in a few days but I don't want to risk boring people !

This is hard to be mind else than that, the picture is quite successful composition. The colors are well-balanced and a pleasant topic.

Think I prefer this version Doug - particularly like the way that the roof and tower are highlighted.

29 Aug 2012 6:14am

Calusarus from ST SORLIN EN VALLOIRE, France

i prefer this one to the former shot : the lighting is really nice

29 Aug 2012 6:25am

Christine from Ellemford, United Kingdom

I like both, the B&W works really well but I also like the light and tone in this one.

29 Aug 2012 6:41am

Stephen from Canberra, Australia

A lovely tranquil beauty to this shot, Doug!

29 Aug 2012 6:41am

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

I like this much more than the original. The church has "Room to breathe" and you can see its setting. Also, as you know, I'm a colour bigot, so the shot has to really, really need to be mono, before I'll vote for it

Heinz from Hamm, Germany

Gute Belichtung und eine schöne Spiegelung.

29 Aug 2012 7:01am

Luke from Spokane Washington, United States

An interesting style!

29 Aug 2012 7:18am

Ainsley from Derbyshire, United Kingdom

I like both, it's one of those where you do it yourself and end up compairing the two for ages and the only real resolution is to post both and get a wider opinion. I think the mono might just nick it for me, but would definitely be up for some more shots in this location.

Martine from bousval, Belgium

Très beau ce manoir avec son reflet!!!!

29 Aug 2012 8:09am

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

I prefer this Doug. Nice soft colours and there is some tone in that triangle of sky, keeping the eye in the frame

Adela Fonts from Barcelona, Spain

Interesting your writing ... Beautiful place to be alone and surrounded by nature ... Best regards, Adela

29 Aug 2012 8:39am

gerard1948 from Santiago de Compostela, Spain

The colors are very soft and beautiful framing, I prefer this one, a beautiful photo.

29 Aug 2012 9:56am

Jules from Drayton, United Kingdom

think I prefer this frame over the b&w as the details seem not so harsh. (you need to remove the "/admin" part from your link as it just takes me back to my admin page!) :)

29 Aug 2012 10:22am

@Jules: Thanks Jules, changed it now

Anthony Morgan Lambert from Bielefeld(Old West Wales Boy), Germany

I do like shots "Straight out of the camera" This is a soft idylic scene..

29 Aug 2012 10:23am

Emma G from Canberra, Australia

Lovely shot...both fantastic, but I think that I prefer the b&w :)

29 Aug 2012 10:38am

Philip from South Wales, United Kingdom

Nice little building and the small reflection lifts the shot well.

29 Aug 2012 11:22am

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

This is my favourite of the two Doug! A magical capture! ;-)

29 Aug 2012 11:44am

I like this one more, Doug. Lovely colours and light throughout.

29 Aug 2012 12:10pm

Jason Politte from Conway, AR, United States

Beautiful - I really love the light you had to work with in this shot, Doug.

29 Aug 2012 12:58pm

myky from Ontario, Canada

Both images are very striking. I do prefer this one Doug. There is more of a diagonal of grass and gravel leading the viewer in here which is very powerful in a composition. And I really love how the warmth of the colours gets reflected in the water.

29 Aug 2012 12:58pm

Josep from Barcelona, Spain

Very good exposure and framing for this beautiful portrait. I do prefer this one, I like the different combination of colors. And I think the reflections are more emphasized with this coloured version.

yalda from Iran

very nice
beautiful color

29 Aug 2012 1:56pm

This beautiful image has a very interesting shade and sunlit lighting. The colors and fine appearance reflect well to make the shot even more interesting. Fine work.

Both are quite nice.
Thanks for your comment on my photo.

Judy aka L@dybug from Brooksville, FL, United States

I really do like seeing the color in this image, so this one wins for me, and I'll look forward to the wider view also. BTW, your link isn't working; here is the correct one ... (no admin in it) http://dougp.aminus3.com/image/2012-08-23.html

@Judy aka L@dybug: Thanks Judy, changed it now

Carol from Leamington ON, Canada

I like this one much better Doug, the light and colors give it a nice warm feeling..... and with more space on each side it doesn't feel so squeezed into the photo. Such a beautiful setting!

29 Aug 2012 4:46pm

franz from Baden, Austria

works better for me, too, though in general i'm all for bw images! but the sky is much nicer with regard to the rest of the photo, and the reflections are just as fine as in the bw image.
judy above has already pointed out that your link doesn't work !!!

29 Aug 2012 5:15pm

kiwisa from North Shore, New Zealand

Doug I've flicked back and forth on these images and I think the b&w accentuates the architectural detailing beautifully. However there is a warmth to the colour version ...so really both are working for me.

29 Aug 2012 7:51pm

ruthiebear from Titusville,NJ, United States

I loved it in B&W for showing off the architectural details. IN this one the most stunning part is the reflection.

29 Aug 2012 8:06pm

Prem from SoCal, United States

both look good and both is a favorite.

29 Aug 2012 8:12pm

RBL from Oxford, United States

Beautiful, your color version is charming and has a warm feel to it; your monochrome was fantastic ~ it has a sense of intimidation (a dark mood). I really like both; each has a very distinct mood ~ well done! You've got me curious ~ I would love to see the wide view too.

29 Aug 2012 8:36pm

Michael Fresh from Chester, United Kingdom

Although I like the bw version, I think this view with the extra space looks really nice.

29 Aug 2012 8:54pm

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

This is gorgeous in color. Wide view - bring it.

29 Aug 2012 9:21pm

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

You are making this become a hard decision! I liked the b&w reflection very much. The water looked like glass. But, I think I like the church in color better. The light seems so much softer.

29 Aug 2012 9:24pm

Mariana M. from Waterloo, Canada

great picture. love reflection , so clear !

29 Aug 2012 9:29pm

Baldwin VW from Bejuma, Venezuela

Fabulous shot !!! The reflection and lighting are really fabulous, but I rather like the B/W version by the great contrasts ...

29 Aug 2012 9:31pm

Vinman from Essex, United Kingdom

I prefer this colour version to the b&w, as it seems more balanced. I found the lower section of the tower was drawing the eye due to its brightness.

29 Aug 2012 9:33pm

C'est superbe !

29 Aug 2012 9:35pm

Beautiful Reflection and Well Balanced, Nicely Done.

29 Aug 2012 11:03pm

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

Different feel in colour, more rounded and fuller bodied (like a good beer).

30 Aug 2012 8:50am

Mamyni from Argenteau-Visé, Belgium

Marvellous vault in the countryside!
Beautiful reflections and splendid light. 5*

30 Aug 2012 1:29pm

Don Levesque from Saint John, Canada

The b/w version really shows us how light hits the building and surrounding areas. The reflections are beautiful. I find that this photo shows more of the charm of building and the reflections are just as beautiful. Both renditions are superb!
