Through the eye of a needle

Posted by Doug (Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom) on 23 February 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

One of the main streets in Gloucester has bollards in the shape of sewing needles and I thought it would make an interesting image to take a shot through one.

Oooh is that clever and cool! The contrast of sights beyond is interesting too. Like your processing of select color. Whats a bollard? Looks like a modern sculpture in this image.

23 Feb 2012 2:14pm

@Joyce: Thanks Joyce. Bollards are sets of posts around waist hight to prevent traffic from coming onto pedestrian areas. If you look along the street at pavement level you can see others set in a row. And yes in this case there's an element of sculpture, as they are made to represent the sewing needles that Gloucester is famous for manufacturing.

Definitely a great idea, Doug. And, as Richard notes, your processing is fantastic here. Not only is this smartly seen, but your application of the B&W on the sides and colour through the "legs" is fantastic..great work here, sir!!
